Memory, Learning and Improving Concentration

Memory, learning and improving concentration.

Learning pyramid

As a student it is important to know how to study well and get flying colours in examination. All student must know the strategies way of learning and studies. That’s why it is important to know about learning pyramid. Here is the percentage that can show you which is the best way to study. This learning pyramid can help you when you get into university or you also can use it even you in school.

          What is brain ?

Brain is an organ that have in our body.Brain also is organ to think just like computer software. When we learn and remember,we will encode, store, and retrieve the information. The analogy is like a computer. Brain also takes hundreds of data for each moment.Right brain capacity is 100 times than the left brain. Some humans only use 3%, 97% stored in the right brain.

           What is memory?

The stored memory is the result of observation. The ability of the invidual to store, maintain, and remember any information and experience just like computer software

 Memory vs brain

Memory is ability to store information in brain.Brain is organ and like computer hardware.
Memory process

  1. sensory
  2. short-term
  3. long-term

Sensory Memory
Sensory memory is numerous incoming information from 5 sense will be stored in the sensory memory for an instant. Sensory memory only can stored for 30 seconds up to 24 hours. If you didn’t practice everyday  the information will be lost as well. That’s why it is important to PAYING ATTENTION in class.

Short-term Memory
It is very limited storage. From the sensory memory, information will be released to Short Term Memory. You only will be remember for short time. Information will be lost if you do not make a review. Therefore, we as a student must realize that applying memory strategies is important to strengthen the memory ability.

Long-term Memory
This is unlimited storage. You can remember the information for a long time. But, if you don’t do the practice or read it everyday it also will be lost as well.

Memory Strategies
Memory strategies ,why it is important? Memory strategies can help us as a student to storing, retrieving information (help to remember and recall) Kenneth Highbee said “remembering hard work, and memory techniques do not necessarily make it easy, they just make it more effective”.

example:  Mnemonics

How to remember rainbow’s colour:
  • Micheal ( Merah – Red )
  • Jackson ( Jingga – Orange )
  • Kill ( Kuning – Yellow )
  • His ( Hijau – Green )
  • Brother ( Biru – Blue)
  • In ( Indigo )
  • University ( Ungu – Purple )
